- Imported Foods Inspection

JFFIC is designated to inspect imported foods by Ministry of Health, Labor and Welfare. Today, there are many kinds of foods imported from all over the world. If you import foods, food additives, equipments, containers and packing to sell and use for business, you have to have these items undergo an examination based on Article 16 of Food Sanitation Law. Imported foods inspection is classified into two categories. One is compulsory inspection and another is voluntary inspection. The former; importers must have the imported goods undergo an examination. Importers can not import goods without this inspection. The latter; importers often have the imported goods undergo an examination voluntarily to get through the import procedure quickly and simply.

- Export Inspection

JFFIC inspects export marine products and issues certifications in English for exporters who are going to export these products to foreign countries. Main items which JFFIC inspects and analyzes for export are as follows: Standard Plate Count (SPC), E.coli, Staphylococcus aureus, food additives, radioactivity, mercury, and so on.

- JAS (Japan Agricultural Standard) Inspection

We can see a “JAS mark” on some agricultural, forestry and fisheries products in Japan. JAS marks can be on the products produced at the qualified processing plants. In other words, the products with a JAS mark are quality products. JFFIC checks sanitary condition of facilities, quality of products, etc at the processing plants to accredit them. Items which JFFIC inspects are as follows: Fish ham and sausage, dried and salted wakame, prepared frozen foods, chilled gyoza, special-packaged kamabokos and flavored kamaboko.
